But perhaps the one which sums him up best was the recognition accorded by the Glaucoma Society of India in 2006, The Glaucoma Society of India Award for Pioneering Glaucoma Care in India, the citation for which read -

"We the members of the Glaucoma Society of India, the many students, co workers and associates of Prof.N.N .Sood , would like to recognize his contributions to the subspeciality and to their own growth as glaucoma specialists. Dr.Sood was one of the first ophthalmologists in the country to understand the need for focussed attention on the problem of glaucoma , and by nurturing the interest of the scores of young ophthalmologists who came under his supervision, has developed a substantial body of expertise in the country. His efforts ultimately resulted in the formation of the Glaucoma Society of India, in 1991 of which he served as the First President. His many students remember him not only for his clinical and scientific acumen , but also for his ability to see beyond disease, and bring home to us all, that we are, after all, dealing with people, not just eyes. This rare combination of medical expertise and humanity is a lesson well learned by all his students."
